Notes: Sweet, sweet, sweet! A true lap dog, Penny will win your heart with her gentle nature and trusting, green eyes. She's two years old and completely house-broken.
Unlike most Chihuahua's, Penny is not pushy or demanding. She'll gladly give up her toys and bones to other dogs to avoid a conflict. Unfortunately, she is easily taken advantage of by others and would not do well in a home with bossy dogs. Penny loves to run and walk, but she'll gladly stay in a shoulder bag just so she can be with you. She has a great personality and is easily enticed into playing with humans or other dogs. Please consider adopting her; she's truly a joy.

Like most toy dogs, Penny would not be appropriate for a family with young children.

With ear infections in both ears and infections in his eyes, he needed a quick trip to a veterinarian. He's on the mend now, and we hope he starts gaining weight soon. His former family seemed to love Buddy. They sent along a letter explaining how much Buddy likes to "sleep in" on weekend mornings and how much he also loves his dog bed (when not in bed with his family). They gave him a funny, "punk" haircut for the summer and put on a red bandana before they took him to the shelter. Thankfully, he's safe with us. Now, all he needs is someone who will fall in love with him forever.

This very sweet girl lost her home when her mistress could no longer afford to keep her. Saved from being euthanized at a shelter, he's now in our safe care. It's time for him to be treated with respect and love. We don't know much about Pinea yet, but he seems to be very sweet. We'd like to see him adopted by someone who knows and loves this breed. Dachshund fanciers, you'll fall in love with this little boy.

Notes: Woodstock is a neutered male Irish Wolfound/Lab mix, five and a half years old. He is being given up because the small children in his home make him nerous. Woodstock currently lives with another family dog and a family cat. His family says that he is playful, affectionate, smart, and trained. He likes to go hiking. The adoption clinics can be hectic, and Woodstock tends to be overwhelmed by all the activity. He's a wonderful dog and will make the ideal companion for just the right person or family.

Capital District Humane takes in dogs/cats/other animals on a weekly basis and places them for adoption in suitable homes.  Our website may not necessarily reflect all the animals available.  CDHA also keeps a list of privately owned dogs/cats needing placement.

CDHA tries to match each animal with the right person or family. We are not looking to "get rid of" animals. Decisions regarding appropriate placement of pets are made on various criteria. One of the things we will ask for is a veterinary reference or the last year or two of all your animals' medical records. If more than one person is interested in a particular pet, CDHA will make a determination regarding an adoption based on which home we think would be best for that animal.

We take adoptions very seriously. If you are considering one of our pets we will want to spend time talking with you and ask that you be patient. Adopting a pet is a long-term commitment. We're seeking quality homes for dogs with individual needs.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT AN ADOPTION CLINIC?

• You will be able to meet the animals for adoption and spend time with them.
   

• Volunteers will provide you with a pet adoption list that describes each dog.
   

• Volunteers will talk with you about what type of dog you are looking to adopt and will try to match you with an appropriate animal. We may have you fill out an "Animal Request Form" if we don't currently have the type of animal you're seeking.
   

• If there is a dog you're interested in adopting we will conduct an in-depth interview and will have you complete an application.
   

• We will want to meet all the immediate members of your household: wife, husband, children.
   

• We will review your veterinary reference or animals' medical records or will call your veterinarian to see if they will recommend you as a pet owner.
   

• We will request doing a home visit.
   

• You may not necessarily be able to take home a dog directly from the adoption clinic, depending on whether or not we can do a home visit or check your veterinary reference. If we have multiple applicants interested in a dog, we will review all the applications and will make a determination based on what we feel would be the most appropriate placement for that animal.
